"Meat" The Team
Chatting with the new committee
AFC Morda United officially formed back in November (we kept that quiet, didn't we?!) so let's hear from those have kicked it all off.
Mat Edwards, Chair.
Mat has had a decades experience in a committee role in the Montgomeryshire League, and his expertise on the day to day operating of a club is invaluable.
“I’m proud to help bring AFC Morda United back to local football. The welcome from the community has been fantastic, and while there’s still plenty of work to do before the new season, this rebirth is about honouring the club’s spirit and building a strong future for everyone connected with Morda.”
Chris Grommell, Vice Chair.
Chris has been a player and manager in the Montgomeryshire League for 14 years. His experience is telling, with a successful playing career followed by a transformative and trophy laden start to his managerial career. Chris will be integral to both our on field and off field growth.
"There is a specific kind of energy you feel when you step onto a pitch that truly belongs to its community. Having played against Morda United in the past, I remember that energy vividly. It wasn't just about the eleven players on the grass, it was about the crowd and the unmistakable sense that the club was the soul of the village.
"For me, this project has been about more than just results. My primary motivation for getting involved is simple, restoring that "community club" feel. Any lingering doubts I might have had were settled during our first committee meeting. It was immediately clear that every person in that room shared the same singular objective. We aren't just rebuilding a team; we are rebuilding a local institution."
Nathan Bartram
There isn't really a role Nathan hasn't fulfilled in Welsh Football. A Manager, Coach, Chairman, Secretary, Referee, Supporter from the stands, and occasionally even a player! He feels this is the next leap in his commitment to local football, and knows the magnitude of a club like Morda United.
"Our ambition is to make Morda United the place to be on a Saturday afternoon. A club where families gather, where young players look up to the first team, where volunteers feel valued, and where local businesses are proud to be involved as we build a genuine football family for men, women, boys and girls.
"That starts on the pitch with the right culture created by the management and players. To be afforded the opportunity to create what that looks is a privelege for everyone who wears our shirt. It's the size of the history here and the chance to create so much more that excites me most. There's a demand that comes with the name Morda United, famous in our local area, and we need to ensure it remains so for this new generation. I can't wait to see what a game day down at Morda in this new era looks like."
Tom Brown
Tom has joined us as a principal partner, as we join forces with The Meat Man, Oswestry. As a former Morda United player this project holds a personal place for him.
“Morda United means a great deal to me. I spent many proud years here as a player, and the club helped shape who I am. To now be in a position where I can give something back is incredibly rewarding. To do this alongside my Dad makes it even more meaningful. We believe this club can achieve great things again.”
Phil Brown
Tom's father Phil joins us, and brings a wealth of both local football and business experience.
“Morda United is at the heart of this community. We want to help build something stable and ambitious for the long term. Our goal is not just short-term success, but creating a strong foundation that players, supporters, and future generations can be proud of.”
The club will be holding its AGM in April, and we encourage anyone who wants to join our committee to get in touch or attend our Open Evening on Friday 20th March at 7.30pm at The Club. All committee roles shall be reviewed and proposed in advance of this.
